Best time to go to Thailand: Flattop Mount Hike, Anchorage

What produce y'all produce for a long vacation weekend? If y'all are inwards Alaska, y'all in all likelihood movement to larn exterior in addition to bask the brusque summertime months spell y'all select them. We decided to caput to 1 of Anchorage's most pop hikes, the Flattop Mountain trail.

You know y'all alive inwards Alaska when your Costco, (and everywhere else), has large deport spray displays. As usual, nosotros forgot to select ours!

But nosotros forged ahead anyway. Apparently the biggest deport deterrent is making lots of dissonance every bit y'all hike. The girls definitely had that covered!

The landscape was real odd at the outset of the trail.

I'm non fifty-fifty certain what sort of trees they were, but such an interesting look!

Then, but similar that, nosotros were higher upwards the tree line, in addition to into wide-open spaces.

I similar this type of terrain much improve inwards Alaska. At to the lowest degree y'all could encounter the bears coming! Though I don't know if that's expert or bad....

The occupation amongst slow May, however, is y'all soundless notice lots of winter. I wasn't actually prepared for H2O ice climbing....

But the views were spectacular, from every direction.

We fifty-fifty had a bully persuasion of Denali, North America's tallest peak.

Most of the hike was a broad opened upwards trail,

but about step cases, which were close conduct up,

in addition to close the top was real rocky, necessitating the go of our hands. For a minute nosotros idea we were dorsum on Mt. Fuji!

There were besides areas of small-scale ledges amongst a steep drop-off, to navigate. Not my favorite.

And inwards Alaska, at that topographic point is ever copious amounts of mud. Always.

We enjoyed watching the paragliders high higher upwards the mountains. Who is wired that way, anyway? Actually, Ella is wired that way. Much to my dismay!

The higher inwards elevation nosotros climbed. the to a greater extent than spectacular the views.

Nice house for a residuum stop.

I absolutely loved the memorial plaque on the bench. What a bully means to award a loved one's legacy!

Onward in addition to upward. See how Flattop Mountain got it's name?

The closer nosotros got to the top, the to a greater extent than hard the terrain. In fact, nosotros could no longer encounter a "trail" at all.

After watching but about people (who were much younger than us), nearly lay out their domestic dog on the steep slide of snowfall in addition to ice, in addition to soundless non become far to the top, nosotros decided that nosotros had gone far enough. (See the flag on top? Apparently the summit is the size of a football game field.)

Oh well, a selfie from the almost-summit.

And amongst that, nosotros began the hike dorsum down. I don't similar leaving things unfinished though, nosotros volition go dorsum when at that topographic point is less snow!

H5N1 lot less snow....

Potter Marsh
While driving through due south Anchorage, nosotros ever transcend a large boardwalk surface area in addition to select wondered what it was. Well, wonder no more, it is the Potter Marsh Wildlife Refuge.

Complete amongst amazing views, of course. Spectacular views are pretty much a given inwards Alaska.

Some of my favorite beauties.

We enjoyed wandering the lengthy boardwalk, watching for birds.

Found one!

And another!

We besides spotted moose tracks, but no moose. They actually dear the marshy areas every bit much every bit the birds!

The gratis binoculars were besides a squeamish touch.

Lots of educational info, every bit well.

So immediately nosotros in conclusion know what the boardwalk surface area is, in addition to nosotros were glad nosotros stopped!

Nothing similar finishing the twenty-four hours at Cabela's. All things considered, I prefer this type of wild animals the most. No deport spray needed.

H5N1 bully long weekend, indeed!
