Best time to go to Thailand: Whale Watching 10 20

No remain inwards Alaska would live consummate without a whale watching excursion, thence nosotros made our agency downwards to Seward to banking concern stand upward for that box. It was a beautiful, but cold, Apr morning.

The town of Seward is located on the Kenai Peninsula, which is inwards due south primal Alaska. From Anchorage, nosotros drove for most 2 together with a one-half hours, through some pretty spectacular landscape.

Seward is a small-scale town alongside a population of exclusively 2,500, together with was named later William H. Seward who served every bit Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of State together with negotiated the buy of Alaska from Russia.

We arrived early on together with had fourth dimension to wander the docks earlier our cruise departed.

The piffling marina was most every bit picturesque every bit it could be.

We enjoyed watching body of body of water otters play inwards the water,

together with were happily greeted past times this friendly guy.

He was real lamentable to come across us go.

All aboard!

And thence began our iii hr tour. (Does anyone else intend of Gilligan's Island alongside the term "three hr tour"? Luckily nosotros fared a chip improve than they did.)

With the movement of the boat, came the wind. It was COLD!

Cold, but unbelievably pristine together with beautiful.

It was squeamish that nosotros could wander from the cabin to the deck every bit nosotros pleased. During busier months, you lot pretty much demand to remain topographic point because seating is at capacity. Rain or shine.

Time for lunch!

More opened upward water, but nosotros hadn't seen whatever whales yet.

We did come across lots of armed services fortifications though. These were built during World War II.

I idea these tree stumps had been burned, but actually, this is what happens when they potable common salt water. They were almost ane hundred years sometime together with the common salt had sort of preserved the wood.

Ahh, to a greater extent than wildlife. The body of body of water lions honey to Sun themselves on rocks. I must admit, it did hold off inviting.

But my favorite business office was the plane show! Hundreds of birds flew off of the rocks, almost inwards a uniform formation at regular intervals, every bit a agency of protecting themselves from predators. It was awe inspiring together with I felt similar it was perfectly performed choreography from our Creator, only for our enjoyment. He gives keen gifts to his kids, fifty-fifty inwards the middle-of-nowhere Alaska.

Who needs whales when you lot receive got the plane show?

But, it was fourth dimension to displace on.

Speaking of plane shows, nosotros came across some other bird, the Horned Puffin, that tin truly dive upward to 250 feet! We watched them dive into the H2O together, thence later a infinitesimal or so, popular dorsum upward to the surface. Incredible!

Then came the whales. Gray Whales embark upon the longest migration of whatever mammal each year, together with unremarkably hitting the Kenai Peninsula betwixt March together with May. They truly pass winters inwards Baja, Mexico, thence brand the trip to Alaska together with Russia, for summertime feeding. A-Ha! That's the hugger-mugger to surviving Alaskan winters. Spend them inwards Mexico! I'm game.

We saw a grouping of iii whales, together with I couldn't fifty-fifty larn a picture, thence I only watched together with took inwards the experience.

After, watching together with next them along for at to the lowest degree 10 minutes, nosotros moved on together with spotted 2 mount goats, high upward on a cliff. Can you lot come across them?

More whales! You tin come across the spray inwards this shot.

We were thence only about this grouping of whales, it was quite thrilling! You could fifty-fifty come across the barnacles growing on the whales body.

We ended upward seeing most xx whales inwards all. In fact, nosotros saw thence many that the captain quit stopping, he'd only nation "more whales to the left". We got lucky, sometimes at that topographic point are no whales spotted on the entire tour.

The broad snowfall covered expanse inwards the motion-picture demo below is truly a type of glacier, though it only looked similar a snow-covered ski run to us.

I want this motion-picture demo wasn't thence bright, but the Sun was warm, thence I'll accept it!

Yes, the captain truly said what nosotros were all thinking '"I'm Rex of the world"!

And the perfect ending to the tour was hot chocolate chip cookies,

together with a bald eagle welcoming us dorsum to port. (Side note- bald eagles mate for life together with also proceed adding cloth to the same nest for life. One nest go got likewise heavy together with roughshod out of a nearby tree. The affair was weighed together with the full weight was 2,200 pounds! Simply amazing!)

So that concludes the tour. It was definitely an Alaskan bucket listing item, together with nosotros saw thence much! Just some other solar daytime on the Last Frontier....
